Authors need libraries

When I worked for newspapers, I had multiple opportunities to meet newly published authors. Now that I’m an editor, I help authors before they publish.

One of the promo outlets authors need to take advantage of is their local library. Or any library, really, but local has particular cachet. Building a relationship with librarians helps both authors and librarians. Authors, because libraries buy books and host programs that get their names into their communities. Librarians, because hosting programs adds to the range of services libraries offer.

But how do these relationships form, and what can they look like? Kerri Sullivan at Catapult has written How working with libraries can help sell your books. Go read the post, then tell me how what kinds of programs you’d be able to present. Maybe a reader of this blog will want to book you for a program!
