Hit a home run with social media
I’ve batched my social media. Isn’t that enough?
If only it were that easy. Just posting content isn’t enough. Once you have the stress of creating and uploading content off your plate, you’ll be able to take the time you’d spend on that and apply it to using your accounts instead. Here are a few ways to increase your account’s visibility:
Respond to comments on your posts. Even just a thank-you or an “I agree” will work. Readers want to know you see them and you value them. They want to be special. When they have an affinity with you, it’s harder for them to turn down opportunities to buy your books or merchandise. (Doubt me? How many times have you gone to a Tupperware or Pure Romance party at a friend’s house determined not to buy anything but come home with an order for a Totally Tubular tumbler set or a pack of Fancy Pants edible underwear? And no, those aren’t real products. At least, not that I’m aware of.)
Comment on other folks’ posts. Give them something of value, not just a thumbs_up emoji. If the post is of an attractive man and advertising an upcoming release, it’s appropriate to congratulate the author on their accomplishment and maybe even add something like, “I hope your sales are as hot as this dude!” The author will hopefully respond positively, and you can start building a relationship from there. Or you could ask about where they sourced their photos, then go follow that photographer and model. Expand your network!
Tag reviewers and other authors in your posts. One way to draw attention is to post something about someone else. (Make it complimentary, please!) To reference a reviewer, you could share a photo of a book similar to yours, credit the reviewer who posted about it, and suggest your followers follow that reviewer for more great selections. When you’ve built up enough of a relationship, you can inquire about the reviewing process and the qualifications. Some reviewers charge; others don’t.
Share your posts and the posts of others to your stories. You can do a simple share, or you can jazz it up with a “new post” sticker or a comment about how much you enjoyed the book.
